"story": "Daria pulls up to the Karoo farmhouse in the late afternoon heat. Gerhard van der Merwe hands her keys on a rusted ring and runs through the rules: feed the Boerboels twice daily, the solar system needs monitoring, the locked room at the end of the west corridor is not to be opened. He smiles when he says it. She walks the house with her sketchbook and finds the half-eaten wors and potatoes on the kitchen counter — cold, congealing, fork resting across the plate like someone stepped away mid-bite. She hears a door close upstairs. She drives to the ridge for signal. She sends one message to the user: I'm in the Karoo. Something feels wrong. I needed someone to know I'm here. Back at the farmhouse she locks herself in the bedroom and drags the wardrobe against the door.",
