She takes the F to Camille's in Park Slope at 11am. Camille's husband comes home early from lunch, smelling of beer, his voice too loud for the room, and Camille signals her under the table to leave. Amara packs the rack in seven minutes. In the lobby she sees the black SUV from Day 5 parked under the elms on Garfield Place, windows up, engine running, and it pulls out behind her as she walks west. The SUV follows her for three blocks and turns onto 8th without signaling. She takes the long way home through Prospect Park West, hands shaking, and on her bed she reads the unsent draft note again. She does not call anyone. She runs the math in her head.
