One star, right at the top
It is Sunday night. I am on my bed with my shoes still on. Maya's words sit on my lock screen. I read them again. I read them one more time.
She is right. I hate that she is right.
I almost lost Mrs. Kessler and I do not even know why. Last night I did not go to that walk-up. Something in my gut said do not ring the bell. So I did not ring it. And now I feel bad about that too, like I let a booking go and told myself it was fine.
On the train I opened the Fort Greene couple. I scrolled up first. One star. Right at the top of my page. The very first thing they see.
I keep my face cool for clients. Cool for Maya. Cool for my mum on the phone. Cool for everyone.
But in here, door locked, shoes still on, my face is not cool at all.
I am scared I am one bad week away from nothing.
