Pieter arrives outside the locked apiary fence and orders her to surrender it, but Tannie Elise and Oom Karel hold the chain while his van rocks against the gate. Pieter reaches through Daria's open window, catches her jacket hood, and yanks her backward so her chin strikes the frame; Daria frees herself with the door, leaving a smear of blood in the corner. She refuses his offer and does not open the bag; instead, she backs toward the rock shelf marked for final release and keeps the phone trained on the labour from outside the sweep of the hood.
