The assistant pins her between his body and the bakkie, draws the cash envelope down her waistband, and offers the same quadrupled money if she lets him open the cooler; Daria jerks away, the broken latch tears her palm, and blood spills across the hatch footage case. She uses the hook to put the cooler behind the cab, locks the tailgate, and walks into the culvert while Wikus and the assistant argue over the betrayal they both committed. Daria releases all eight neonates without logging or filming the drop, leaves the open cooler beneath a thorn tree, and sends Wikus a photograph of the empty tub.
