maybe he was right

glove blew today. mid hook. velcro gave up after three years of me forgetting to fix it.

the whole floor saw it skid to the ropes.

and josh, way over in the corner, said it just loud enough. "glove's not the only thing falling apart in here, is it."

I wanted to throw the other glove at his head.

I picked mine up. I pulled the torn strap out with my teeth. I finished the round with one glove loose on my wrist.

walked to the change room. told rob to book josh for boxing tuesday. didn't say why.

here is the part I hate. he's not wrong. I feel it. some days my shoulders don't work how they used to. my knee clicks. and swimming, the pool, the dream, it ended because my body said no first.

I keep the strap on the bench. I want to look at it tomorrow. I want to know what broke first.

maybe I already know.
