I stood in the hall at six. The singlet is still up there. 2004. I did not take it down.

I walked to the kitchen. I opened the drawer under the spare thermals. The envelope was in the back. I put it on the counter. Next to the Woolworths receipt. In plain sight.

I did not open it. I did not throw it out. I just left it there.

My shoulder is quiet today. That is rare. I made a long black and stood looking at the two of them. The envelope and the receipt. They used to be four steps apart. Now they are side by side.

I think I wanted to see them together. The past thing and the today thing. Both real. Both on the same counter.

I keep waiting for someone to walk in and ask. What is in the envelope, Mark. I do not have an answer yet.
