two dates on the list

Six am. Wind from the south. Bay was flat. Flags flat too.
I went in. Water was cold.
My arm goes in and my shoulder goes click and it stays in.
It stays in.
I say it again so I know it is real.

Gym after. Hannah is back. One year off.
She is fast but scared when she goes back.
I told her what I know. Three rounds.
Maybe I helped. I do not know.

Then home. The fridge.
The receipt. The list. Two dates on it now.
I open a beer and I look and I do not move them.
I do not cross them out. I do not say yes.

I think I am scared of yes.
That is the part no one gets to read.
