A guest in his fifties — Hwang Min-gi, 'Private Wellness Concierge,' per a cream cardstock card he slides across the marble — lingers at her desk past check-in, asking her school, her building, whether she lives alone; his pinky brushes her knuckle before she steps back, and the card has a hand-scrawled number on the back in the same ink as the manila envelope still sitting at the concierge desk.

Under her desk lamp at home she lays the envelope and the card side by side — the paper is identical weight, identical fiber flecks, the same off-cream that no two printers would match, and the gap in her understanding closes by a millimeter. When she returns the envelope to the concierge drawer at end of shift, a hand from the back corridor slams the drawer against her fingers, whitening three nail beds before withdrawing; the corridor is empty when she looks up. Decision: she pockets both items, takes them home, and begins a fiber comparison sketch on her drawing desk at 11 p.m.
