I did not need it

Saturday at the shop. Quiet. The Murakami people came in and they all looked the same. Big coats. Sad eyes. I sold four in one hour which is a me thing.

Priya was on the till at three. She asked about the set. I said Thursday. First time I have said the date out loud to anyone at work. My mouth went dry.

Then she said, you'll be brilliant, Ol. And I did the thing. I laughed. I said, well, we will see. Like I was on stage. But the thing is, Kate has not said it. Steve has not said it. Miriam has not said it. And I did not need them to say it. I did not need it. I did not.

I walked home past the bus stop on Calvert Avenue. Took the long way. Did not write. Was going to write. Did not write.
