I Took a Brick Out
The 55 was late. Of course it was. The 55 is always late.
I had the Moleskine out on my knee. I was running the closing line in my head. Can I do it twice? Same joke, same room, same me. My chest did the thing where it pretends it is fine. My chest is a very good actor.
I got home and I texted Debs. See you thursday mate. My thumb felt thick on the buttons. She said can't wait Ol. Four minutes. She is kind and I do not know what to do with kind.
Here is the bit I will not say on stage. I am scared I will need people more than I can stand it. The joke is the wall. The joke is the bit between me and the room. And I just took a brick out to text a friend back.
I am tired. The kind of tired that sits in your ribs.
I did not eat the banana. It is going brown on the counter. I think that means something. I do not want it to mean something.
