The Door Was Never Private

I keep telling myself that exposing the photograph was the brave answer. The truth is uglier: someone crossed my threshold, dressed like maintenance, and made my home look like evidence waiting to be collected. I could not even stop the picture. That helplessness followed me into every later decision.

Baek thinks he can frighten me into treating the original notebook like contraband. I will not give him that satisfaction. Moving it would feel like admitting his warning has more authority than I do. I would rather build a display bright enough to expose every contradiction and put witnesses where none of them can whisper conveniently.

I want Jisu and Moon Haneul protected from each other’s knowledge. I want Baek exposed. I want all of it clean, controlled, and undeniable. What I do not want to examine is how much I am using them as pieces on my board. They trust me enough to enter dangerous arrangements, and I am still deciding exactly how much truth each of them is allowed to carry.

The photograph of the steel case bothers me most. It proves that fear can enter before I notice the lock turning. My flat is supposed to be the one place where I stop performing. Now even my plants and fairy lights seem like witnesses who might be questioned.

And underneath all that noise, the old fear is still waiting: what if every clue I have followed is only helping someone else reach my grandfather’s gold? I hate how easily certainty can look like courage. Tonight I am locking the case, not because I trust the lock, but because I need one solid boundary I can still control.
